  • In order to be certified against the MarinTrust Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard, or to renew certification or extend the scope of certification, producers of marine ingredients shall follow the application and certification process below.​
  • ​All applications shall adhere to Version 2 of the MarinTrust Chain of Custody Standard. ​
  • To ensure readiness for your audit, carefully review the Chain of Chain Standard and supporting documents​.

Apply online

Our online application process covers new applications and recertifications or scope extension applications for existing certificate holders.

​The MarinTrust secretariat conducts initial approval of the application form​. The Certification Body accepts the application form and contacts the applicant to schedule the audit date.​

All recertification applications must be submitted 6 months before the certificate expiry date. Any changes or additions to the certificate scope must be submitted at least 3 months before the scheduled audit​.

2. Get audited

The Certification Body schedules and completes facility site audit. This includes conducting a company activities review to produce a checklist and preparation for the audit​.

Ask the Certification Body to provide a certification timeline.

3. Close non-conformities

If any non-conformities are raised during the audit, the facility has up to 21 working days to submit evidence to close non-conformities.

4. Certification decision

All certification decisions sit with the certification body and their auditors​.

The certificate is issued to the facility and published on the MarinTrust website.​ A MarinTrust certificate is valid for 3 years, subject to successful annual surveillance audits​.

To maintain certification, the facility must undergo annual surveillance audits​. All recertification applications must be submitted 6 months before the certificate expiry date.​
